Elvis Aaron Presley, was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935 and died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.In 1954, he began his career as a rock and roll singer with the Sun Records in Memphis winning over the years the title king of rock and roll .
By 1956, he has already won international recognition with his unique voice which combined his diverse musical influences : pop and country music of the time and the gospel music he heard in the Assembly of God Church he attended as a child and a teenager.
Statistics said that Elvis Presley has sold over one billion record units worldwide, more than anyone in record industry history, having had exactly 149 songs which appeared on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Chart in America. 114 out of these were in the top forty, 40 were in the top ten, and 18 went to number one more than 80 weeks .
Elvis received three awards from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) for the album How Great Thou Art (1967), He Touched Me (1972) and his live Memphis concert recording of the song How Great Thou Art (1974).
Six of Elvis’ songs have been introduced to NARAS Hall of Fame:

- Heartbreak Hotel (recorded1956 , introduced 1995),
- That’s All Right (recorded 1954 , introduced 1998),
- Suspicious Minds (recorded 1969 , intoduced 1999),
- Don’t Be Cruel (recorded 1956 , introduced 2002) ;
- Are You Lonesome Tonight (recorded 1960 , introduced 2007).
